Abstract
Literatures in Contiguity
France Daigle in/and Quebec
France Daigle in/and Quebec
Taking as its point of departure a relatively minor incident, the rejection of an application by the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la littérature et la culture québécoises to welcome Acadian writer France Daigle as Writer-in-residence, this article examines the stakes involved in integrating an Acadian author into Quebec literature. Drawing upon Barbara Godard’s analysis of the interactions between cultural fields and of the multilayered relations of power at work in such interactions, the article analyses the porosity of the border between Quebec letters and Acadian letters as well as the tensions which place that border under considerable strain.
