Abstract
This research aims to target the appropriate data and arguments to inform, respond to and convince the moderate New Brunswickers about the public issues of bilingualism and official languages duality. This objective is to equip the Société de l'Acadie du Nouveau-Brunswick in its decision-making and the implementation of its communication strategy toward the discourse that is detrimental to the advancement of bilingualism and the duality of the official languages of the province.
To achieve this overall goal, the research also has three specific objectives:
1) Identify and prioritize common or widespread myths and arguments among advocates of anti-bilingualism at least unfavorable to the duality of the official languages of the province;
2) Identify and evaluate positions and arguments in favor of bilingualism and the duality of official languages in New Brunswick;
3) Renew data on bilingualism in New Brunswick using the latest census: unilingualism and bilingualism by language and age of regional populations in the province, contribution of immersion programs, economic costs and benefits, bilingualism at work, promising areas of bilingualism, social benefits.
