Abstract
Canada: a country whose image is in constant transformation. However, this country is in a precarious position when confronted with the idea of national identity. This study targets political communication in Canada--in both official languages and specifically with the role of the media in the debate about Canadian national identity. The primary focus of this study is the role of our first source of national public broadcasting: Radio-Canada (SRC)/Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's (CBC) Internet channels and the impact of their communication strategies on Canadian society. Though-out history linguistic differences have traced the path of a "binational" and "bicultural" society, to the point where each of these cultural groups gravitate in their own media spheres - without any awareness of the 'Other.' We think this could be an important factor as per why Francophones and Anglophones don't consider themselves "Canadians" in the same way.
