Abstract
This report provides a brief overview of settlement services and their importance. It examines 12 relevant topics: pre-arrival orientation and counselling; program delivery; program funding and administration; program eligibility; language training; the lack of recognition of foreign credentials and experience; health issues; racism and discrimination; geographic distribution of immigrants; immigrant children; the overall process; and settlement workers. It concludes with a list of recommendations and appendices setting out witnesses and briefs presented to the committee.
