The CIRLM Launches a New Collection, Langues officielles et sociétés [Official Languages and Society], published by Les Presses de l'Université Laval - June 2014
The Canadian Institute for Research on Linguistic Minorities (CIRLM) announced today the launch of a new collection of works on official languages.
The Langues officielles et sociétés [Official Languages and Society] collection will include works examining language issues in the context of national bilingualism and multilingualism. The collection will favour studies on Canada and its Official Language Minority Communities (OLMCs). The collection will also include studies offering comparative perspective between the Canadian context and the situation of minorities in other countries.
The development of minority communities, the differences in status between languages, the representations of languages in society, the competition between majority and minority languages are some of the aspects that characterize the importance given by states to legislating in this area. Language issues are also a source of collective mobilizations throughout various eras and different dimensions of life in society (political, economical, cultural and spiritual). Several social science disciplines can bring a critical perspective to specific issues relating to official languages as well as education, health, the arts, culture, the media, migration, immigration and identity.

Anne Robineau is Assistant Director of the Canadian Institute for Research on Linguistic Minorities. She has a Ph. D in Sociology from the Université de Montréal. Her research focuses on art, culture and education.
Éric Forgues is Executive Director of the Canadian Institute for Research on Linguistic Minorities. He has a Ph. D. in Sociology from the Université de Montréal. His research focuses on matters relating to health and governance.
