Isabelle Violette

Associate Professor and Director of Centre de recherche en linguistique appliquée
Isabelle Violette is a sociolinguist and associate professor in the Department of French Studies at the Université de Moncton (New Brunswick, Canada). She is also Director of the Centre de recherche sur la langue en Acadie at the same institution. Her fields of interest are linguistic minorities, immigration, debates and linguistic ideologies. These themes are studied from the peripheral francophone spaces and more particularly from the research fields of Moncton and Acadia. Isabelle Violette regularly intervenes in the media to dissect current socio-language issues and is called upon to present her expertise in various political and public forums on sensitive subjects such as language quality, bilingualism, chiac and language insecurity.
